Need boot disc cdrom drivers
Have an old Packerd Bell with a Matsu****a CD Rom plugged into the sound card. Windows doesn't seem to recognize this arrangement so it won't boot, so no can install OS. It says I need MSCD001. Does anybody know where I can find a driver that will work??
I have looked on the driver guide site.
I have drivers from the Matsu****a site but they don't work on boot floppy
What am I doing wrong???
Have you tried using the Windows Boot Disk to recognize the CDROM drive? Windows Boot diskette drivers that will load geberic drivers which will detect most CDROM drives.....
Otherwise, you will need to manually set the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys file to run the CDROM in DOS mode...
Look here to see how it can be done:
I have tried the win boot disc, according to MS site windows doesn't have generic drivers for it because it is connected to the sound card instead of to the motherboard.
Maybe on the original boot floppie which I don't have.
will check the site you sent
Connect it to the motherboard too.
Ultimate Boot Disk v4.0 Date: December 22, 2000
Menu-driven PC startup disk with all the utilities needed to set up and troubleshoot your PC, including: new setting for flashing your bios, 9 new one-click automated Windows install options, audible alarms to warn of potential file damage, mouse support, boot floppy virus self-check and up to 20% more conventional DOS memory than the regular Windows bootdisk.
It also depends on how old your cd-rom & s/card is. My early creative s/card & cd-rom kit had a proprietry type connector that looked like ide but - it wasnt. (thats early 486 days ok so it may not be relavent in your case).
contacted prior owner & may be able to get original boot disc. Don't think the CD will connect to motherboard
Thanks for sugestions
first which sound card do you have is it opti or a sound blaster by creative? i have some drivers for that cd and sound card combo around here. the sound card has to be recognized or the cd will never work. with my creative setup if i remember it was load dos then load sound card drivers then cd drivers. post on sound card maybe i can help.
Your question is not that clear, anyway, if u are trying to get to boot from the cdrom of an old computer, the best, proper and only way i know u can do that is by updating the BIOS of your computer with the latest one
I have did this on many computers i worked on
I have recieved the original boot disc from previous owner so problem solved.
Thanks to all who responded to my post.
Because its a PB I would start my search for a real mode driver here:
if that doesn't lead anywhere try windrivers.com
