added burner-no power now

just added burner to sys i built a year ago atx and booted after install and it wouldn't recognize burner- reread instructions an it said if i had another high speed cd to set burner as master went and did that rebooted so i changed the config went to reboot and no post no fan no power no lights.
went back rechecked everything, wires ,jumpers all of it--nothing..thought maybe ps went out..oh well get a new box p/s and now ready to upgrade in the future--but i can use my present sys-- redid - rechecked all as i switched cases routed wires all neat and hit the switches--nata. plese suggest something to check. thanks mike

Try a minimal build out of the case.

Hi,
I don't want you to think that I am suggesting you may be overlooking the obvious but I have to ask.

Is the Machine Plugged into an outlet that has power on it? You may have tripped out the protection device for the wall outlet without realizing when you did the first internal examination. If you don't have a meter to check plug in an appliance that is robust Table Lamp, Toaster etc to see if the circuit is live.

have tried firing it up with just ram cpu and vidio but still nothing. Switched outlets-nothing--cleared cmos-nothing. thinking it may be Motherboard?

One time I tried to connect a floppy drive in my case and the floppy power cable was damaged. What happened? The computer didn't wanted to start. No fans, no lights, no sounds, nothing. Recheck the power cables (all of them) and try to keep it minimal (even try disconnecting all power cables i.e. hard drives, floppies, etc..).

tried firing it up with mb cpu ram no cables to any drives. flick it on and nada. tried jumping the two pins from power switch @ mb nada. Will try justa bout anything. Maybe the reason is i got a 300w ps and case and i'm supposed to upgrade??

Ummm, this may sound too obvious, but maybe you bumped the switch on the back of the power supply? make sure it's on the 1 position.

As cedar said, did you try it out of the case? you might have moved the mobo slightly and its now shorting out on one of its stands.

Swap the mains cable with the monitor cable mains cable to ensure that the fuse in the cable isn't stuffed. Failing that sounds like you've an unhappy PSU.

finally did it outa box got it up and going --thought by disconnecting everything in the box was cool-- it wasn't. thanks for your time
