Onboard graphics chip, cant use addin card...
i have a hewlett-packard pavilion 4445 which has an ASUS MEB-VM motherboard which has a built in ATI Rage II+ AGP chip. i have an ati all in wonder agp card that i want to use so i can watch tv...when i install the add-in agp card and turn my computer on my system give one long beep followed by 2 short beeps. this means there is a problem with the graphics card. the all in wonder card works in my other systems so why wont it work in this computer? i also have a riva tnt and it DOES WORK in this system. how can i get the all in wonder to work!?!?!?

Try seeing if you can disable the onboard video in your bios, (use the search feature here, you may find more info as its been covered a few times before)

You might also want to check the option in your BIOS for InitDisp = "Initialize Display". You will want to change that to AGP if you want the system to boot from the AGP videocard or PCI if you want it to boot first from a PCI video card.
This option simply sets the parameter on what video card to boot first.....

well i have a phoenix bios whith alot of options diabled because of the OEM HP package but it has an option to set agp or pciand i set it to either one and it still does that

Hmmmmm... Have you also tried reseating the video card that you added?
-
its an AGP card, therefore there is only one slot to put it in...you guys really are helpfull. HP's tech support never responded to the emails and ATI told me to contact HP so, im counting on you guys!

Some boards have a jumper that need to be moved to disable the on-board vid.
Hopefully if you look real closly in that area you may see a single jumper labled something like "vid".

Edit- Sorry, I missed were you said that another card worked in it. -edit

In your bios plug&play/pci there is a setting for ONB VGA BIOS First, when it is set to no it allows external cards to take precedent, when set to yes it always uses onboard.
-
well i guess i should clarify that i currently am using a nvidia riva tnt pci card. it works perfectly, as does any other expansio card except if the are agp! no agp card will work!

Look in your Phoenix BIOS for a "video" setting. If it says "enabled", disable it.
That should disable your onboard video- I have a "Seattle" board (w/Phoenix BIOS) with 'onboard Crystal PCI sound'; and there is a "sound" setting in the BIOS. That's all it says- "sound".
I upgraded to a Creative soundcard, and had a similar problem as you, even after uninstalling the Crystal drivers. IT would boot okay, but "Plug N Play" would always find the Crystal soundchip, not my Creative PCI512 card. So, into the BIOS I went, and, Voila! I disabled the "sound" in the BIOS, and everything fell into place after that. Hope this helps.

My post came directly from the manual for your mobo, did you try it? If you don't see the setting then it may be hidden by HP.
-
no there isnt a setting for just 'video' and the only plug n play option i have is where it askes what OS is installed, if i choose win98/nt5.0 it allows windows to set the pnp, if i set it to 'other' the bios sets the values. thats how i had to get my ethernet card to work under linux but since i dont use linux anymore i set it back to 'win98/nt5.0'

Oh well, nuclear- I thought it might be a possiblity- sorry!
Good luck!
