Just installed a modem and now there's this weird noise...
Ok, here's what is goin' on. I installed a Creative Labs Modem Blaster v.90 56K ISA Modem in a friends dell. I am unsure of his specs, except it is a PIII with 128MB RAM, but now I have this problem with a sound that just keeps repeating itself. It sounds like a "Ping Pong" game! What would I do to find the culprit? When I hit Ctrl+ALT+Del, the only programs running are systray and explorer, although it will happen whenever any program is runing.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Is it still under warranty? Ask one of their techs either on the phone or through e-mail. It could be a proprietary sound that only Dells make when bad little boys install modems where modems aren't compatible. Check sounds in control panel and see if there's something there that it could be.

does the sound come from multimedia speakers?
or the PC speaker ?
or just the case ?
have you tried turning of the modem sound ?
you might want to try disabling the modem in device manager. Reboot.
If the sound still exists, i would start looking at the hardware itself...good seat, not touching anything else. mabe a ribbon is inadvertently touching a fan...you get the drift.
if the sound goes away after disabling the device, then...i'd be stumped.
not much...good luck
