    hdd resize

    i have one 1.2 gb hard disk drive
    of quantum bigfoot make
    it had bad sector in 98% to 100% area
    i want to reduce the size from 1.2 gb to
    1.10 gb to get rid of the bad sectors
    i want to do in such a way that whenever
    i auto detects the hard disk drive it detect
    it as 1.1 gb only

    any suggestion or sulution
    help urgent please

    If you are willing to lose the data on the disk all you will need to do is a FDISK and then manually choose what size you want the drive to be. If you do not what to lose data that is on the drive you will need to use software such as Powerquest's Partition Magic 4.0 which will allow you to resize the harddrive's partiton on the "fly".

    use a util from maxtor and try to lowlevel format it maybe with a little luck you wipe out the bad sectors !

    Maybe you have already thought of this, maybe not, so I will throw this out on the table for your consideration.

    Why bother with FDISK or some other solution, when you can run a scandisk, and allow the system to mark the bad sectors so that they are never used again? That way, you don't have to jump through many hoops, and you get to keep the rest of your drive....
