    Red face Sharing a Scanner

I have a scanner that I want to share throughout the network. Is that possible? People have told me that you can share it but know one has ever told me how to actually do it.

Sorry guy, whoever told you it's possible is pulling your chain. It's not possible to share a scanner over the network.

You can map the drive that has the sacnner program is installed on and run the program
    with the network computer.

We had a similar problem at work. In the end we decided that you had to take the photo or book etc into the room with the scanner anyway (and return later to pick up the said item) so you might as well use the computer right next to the scanner OR buy a cheap scanner for our area instead of wasting the same money on lost productive hours for a few guys mucking about with networking a scanner.
It seemed ok at the time but I was still interested to see if it could be done.

Actually, MOST scanners are not shareable. There do exist a select few (High end HP, SCSI) scanners that people tell me are shareable.

It is a good idea to try running the local scanner software shared over the network, see if that works, else pcAnywhere.

There's a new hardware addon coming out soon which will allow the sharing of scanners, but as said above seems like a really pointless idea as u have to put paper in scanner etc.. But if your that desperate to do it then I suggest a piece of software called remote PC allows u to take complete control of another computwr from yours.
So with this software you could access scanner host!, Scan document then just save it to a shared network drive!!!
