    Download IE5

Can someone tell me where I can download a full version of IE5 without going through Microsoft. I don't want MS doing my install for me. Besides that I want a copy I can keep on CDR. I download at TUCOWS but there was no setup program in the zip file.

    Thanks in advance

The 40MB file I downloaded from TUCOWS yesterday does have a setup file, ie5setup.exe. Just because it isn't plainly "setup.exe" doesn't mean it isn't a setup file.

Most of the bugs from the beta have been worked out, from what I can tell so far.

When I ran the file IE5setup that came in the dowload from TUCOWS it took me to Microsoft update page and started downloading again from the beginning. Am I doing something wrong?

    That's wierd - I can't suggest anything.

The only thing I can think of is make sure you've unzipped the zipfile (don't run the exe from within a winzip window). Then, the installer should see the cabs are already loaded. Also, when you run it, choose to "reinstall", not the "smart recovery/resume": force it to start the install over again. It may still connect, but it will only do version checking on the files, and once it finds you already have the new ones locally, it will continue the installation.

I did it twice yesterday, once on my machine, once on a friend's. Same downloaded zipfile from TUCOWS, same installer, both times worked the first time.

Maybe you got the TUCOWS zipfile from when they had a customized IE on their servers - late on Thursday they changed it to the Microsoft official one.

Found the problem. I had started a download from MS 2 days ago and decided not to continue with it. This left a resume setup icon on the desktop. After deleting it IE5setup from TUCOWS worked ok. I guess the setup program was somehow finding this and resuming where I left off the first time. "STRANGE"

    Thanks for your help Jackal

At Tucows they has a "custom" ie5setup.exe setting for Tucows. Try the one on Microsoft or any other site other than Tucows.

    Have Fun Downloading IE5

Mike, they did have a custom one on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, but due to massive demand, they packaged the official MS one instead (~40MB zipfile). I'm running it, and I would know ... no TUCOWS buttonbar or even bookmarks were installed when I installed mine.
