Freezing
I'm having a very BIG problem with my system freezing up. Abit KA7 100-133 w/Athlon 700 processor. Makes no difference what your doing WAM O it freezes, you reboot and try again. Happens as many as twenty time daily. Ready to dispose of it and start over. Thanks for your input. Sam

Hi Sam,
Maybe a little more info on your system, and if this is a new system, or one that has been working fine for a while and just started having this problem.
The first thing I would start with would be the Vidio Card driver, either check for an updated driver, or use a standard one off the Windows CD for a while.
It's a shame that it is locking up so many times a day, but actually that could help the troubleshooting since you will know real soon when the problem stops.

Be sure the proper drivers are installed for the motherboard chipset - try installing them again just to be sure.
Are you using a 100mhz memory bus speed or trying to go higher/overclock? The first thing that comes to mind is that the Athlon doesn't seem to work well with non-standard bus speed.
I may be possible that your RAM is not compatible. Make sure that your memory is Athlon approved by AMD. I had a problem early on with my Athlon and RAM.
Make sure you have the latest BIOS version.
A 300w power supply is highly recommended.
If your Athlon 700 came OEM with a heat sink and fan you may want to remove the heat pad between the heat sink and CPU and use thermal paste instead.

I couldn't resist this one:
Tell me, is it "freezing", "stalling" or "hanging"
Microsoft has s different recommended fix for each of these problems..
...of course they will tell you that these are not actual "problems" but value-added features.
