Is there a way to get information about a PC by using the serial number from the back of it? I am trying to get one straightened up for a friend and she received this PC as a gift with no information about it at all. It is not a brand name or doesn't have a name at all anywhere on it. The only thing that came with it was a System board CD and Windows 98 second edition CD and book.
does the machine boot?
Look for a long alphnumeric chain in the top right of the screen, or bottom right of the screen. This numbe rwill identify the motherboard and the BIOS chip installed.
From there you can go to google.com and perform a search based onthe number you see to find information.
