    Talking benchmarking programs

what benchmarking programs do you folks use as a generaql check of cpu speed/videospeed/memory and disc speed/operation?

Ive tried Norton Util2000 and winmag.com's "wintune".

the latter always shows my hdds running very slow (60-80% normal both for "cached" and "uncached" parameters...

    computs r P133-266MMX/16-32 ram/1.2-4.0gbhdds/256LII caches, enabled, win 95.

My old "Trigem" P133/64 ram/1.2gbhdd/256LII cache/win95 really runs very slow acc to these programs (like a P75)--wonder how accurate they really are----would trying to run a complex video game (Doom) serve as a "rough" benchmark?

    thanx...

SiSoft Sandra 2000 since it has a lot of info in addtion to benchmarking. But Sandra doesn't benchmark your video.

I use an old program (1993) for video benchmarking called Speedy (came with WinTach 1.2) I use the old program since I can compare the improvement over the years. I'm looking for a good video benchmarking program now -- I hear 3D Mark 2000 is good. Fairly hefty download (17.7 megs!!!) so haven't tried it yet.

I liked WinTach 1.2 (from Texas Instruments) also and used it for years to compare improvements to my system, but for some reason it won't run anymore -- I am guessing because a 1992 program was never intended to benchmark a CPU running at 800MHz -- Texas Instruments never upgraded the program so I tried WinTune 98 but really didn't care for it. Then got SiSoft Sandra. Which is what I'm mostly using. I also have Norton SystemInfo since it came with Norton 2000, but Sandra gives me more info.

I commonly use the following apps:

    CPU:
    SiSoft Sandra
    WinTune98

    VIDEO:
    3dMark2000
    Tirtanium
    FogCity

Tom, I didn't even know anyone else was still using Speedy. I used it up until a few months ago. It is actually a pretty accurate 2d benchmark. Also, the 18meg for 3dMark is definitely worth the download, as it has bacame the defualt 3d benchmark at almost every hardware site and forum.

Rob - Thank's for the recommendation. I'll give 3D Mark a whirl since the recommendation comes from another "Speedy" user. Don't forget the secret hand shake!

P.S. I see you have both 3D Mark and Tirtanium. What's the difference, why both?
