Modem problem
I'm having a hard time connecting at 56K with my NewCom 56KifxvC modem (this is a hardware modem). I almost always connect at 33600. I can't get support or updated drivers from NewCom since it doesn't exist anymore. Anyone knows how to fix this ?

your download speed is what you should look at,if it is running slower than you have a problem.find a website that you go to time it so you can have a gauge to go by.go to sysopt.home page and guides than perfomance tips.hope it helps

Also, it may just be the condition of your phone lines - old or noisy phonelines can keep you from connecting at high speeds.
I lived in this junky old apartment and hardly ever connected higher than 33K (with my 56K modem). I just moved into a new house in a new subdivision, and now I never connect at anything lower than 44K.

I bought one of these new and had nothing but trouble with it, poor download speed, constantly being disconnected in the middle of a download, so I contacted NewCom's tech support, they told me to flash the bios with a new version, once I did that, it was worse, I tried to contact them again and they never answered my email. Shortly after that they went out of business, I threw the modem in the junk an bought a US Robotics 56k which I have been using for 3 years without fail, great connection and download speeds, and I never get dropped. I'm sorry this doesn't help you but with my personal experience with this modem there is not much you can do to improve your connection, except get rid of it and get a new modem.
