Lightbulb Can you put a DVD cd in a normal CD Rom drive and view the contents?

Can you put a DVD cd in a normal CD Rom drive and view the contents?

and if yes: - I know there is software out there that can rip DVD's and convert to MPEG's. Would that work without a DVD player?

No. The laser required to read the DVD-ROM isn't installed in a CD-ROM drive.

    Thumbs up

Isn't this because the data that is written on the DVD is more dense than the data on the regular cd?? I believe so. For one thing the data is closer to the surface of the written side which makes DVDs sensitive to scratches and dust. Just take care of the DVDs and they will last a while. So far my DVDs are scratch free. And so are my games.
