How can I beat the 650MB recording limit?
I can't seem to record more than 650MB of data on my 700MB Cds. I am using Adaptec EZ Cd Creator 3.5. Is it my software? If so, what free CD Recording software can do the job?
depends what type of burner you have, i believe some makes of sony and hp will not overburn regardless of what media or program you use
sorry .....if those burners are not what you have try other software programs like fireburner or nero or cdrwin

Most likely a hardware problem (as stated above). Give us the model of your drive.
I have a 4x/8x Panasonic (SCSI), and I dont believe I can overburn or burn the 700 meg media (there is a difference).
Overburn is when you would like to burn more than 650 megs onto a 650 meg disk.
My old Ricoh drive didn't support the 700 meggers, or overburning. If anyone actually has a drive that can overburn + burn the 700 meg cd's, post it, i'm interested to hear about it
http://www.gamecopyworld.com has a section in it about overburning and which drives can and which can't etc. and which software to use might be worth a look
My burner is the Plextor Plexwriter 4/12 PX-R412Ci 50-pin SCSI Internal, so I don't believe the hardware is the limiting factor.
I heard sometimes that it is the CDR software that was made before 700MB CDs even existed don't allow you to write more than 650MB as a precaution.
There are definitely burners that won't handle 80's or overburning. I have a Teac R56 SCSI that can put up to 76 1/2 min on a 74 min CD (using CDRWin). It also handles 80's with no problems. There are lots of web sites that rate burners as far as overburning and reliability.
I,ve been using 80's on my Mitsumi cd-rw with no problems and they are only slightly more expensive than 74's. Have you got the latest flash upgrade for your burner.
My HP drive manual says that it will burn more than 650mb cd's, however it recommends against trying to do so because the quality of the media varies greatly. Maybe you should try another brand of cd to see if that helps.
It turns out that it wasn't the CD media that was preventing the write. It was the software. Adaptec EZ CD Creator 3.5 and CDRWin still refuse to allow me to record more than 650MB of data. It kicks the blank CD out. How do others get the Adaptec EZ CD Creator 3.5 to work?
I finally got it to work with Nero Burning Rom. At least something finally worked.
try Nero burning ROM 22.214.171.124, it overburns, or if something is wrong like your CD, it will tell u, and it is the best i've ever used to copy stuff, first it can be complicated, but after awhile, it's a snap to use.
any links for nero burning rom?
Donkey, this may sound like a stupid question, but I was looking through gamecopyworld and didn't find much. Could you give a link to the list of drives that support overburning and/or 80min cd's?
BEST OVERSIZING RECORDERS
Teac: CD-R50S, CD-R55S, CD-R56S-450, CD-R56S-600 & CD-R58S TEAC
Plextor: PX-R412Ci/e (firmware 1.06 or up), PX-R820 & PX-W4220 (and all newer models) PLEXTOR

For list of cd-r/rw that supports 80min disks, see http://www.feurio.de/Writerdb/frame_list_all.html This is in the German language but the names of the recorders are the same and, "Ja" and "Nien" are self-explanatory.
BEST OVERSIZING MEDIA (this is not a complete list)

-Ricoh Type 74 (2) (Made in EU) 78:27 Ricoh Company

I pretty much settled with the Ricoh Platinum discs. Both the 74min and 80min media.
80min media can be oversized as well, to hold up to 83:30 minutes of data (734 Mb) and even a larger capacity for audio.
