I've had the same problem before. Win95 & 98 all of a sudden will not autorun even when the auto insertion notification box is checked. Here is the fix. Edit the registry.
Click on Start
Run regedit then go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\
NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Modify this value to 0000 95 00 00 00
My old value was 0000 ff 00 00 00 which didn't work. If your not sure on how to do this editing I would suggest you get help but it does work. Its burried in the Microsoft website. Its also on the Regedit.Com website.

I've had a similar problem that i posted here about a week ago. It was i have a HP 9860C with the DVD drive and CD-R/RW and when i insert a audio cd it says it can't find this one file. Something like autorun.inf or something. Some guys told me how to turn the auto insertion notification but i know how to do that but i actally wanted to "fix" the problem but nobody ever gave me the answer that i was looking for. Could you guys help
