Question HP midtower and HDD location

My Aunt purchased an HP computer with Windows 7 a couple years ago. Back in March her HDD crashed, just after her warranty expired, of course. I can easily add a new HDD with a certified copy of Windows 7. I found the location of the cage holding the bad HDD. It was right behind the underside of the Motherboard 🤔 Is there another way to mount the new HDD in the case without using the "cage" ?

The hdd can be placed anywhere as long as the cable can reach it and it isn't in the way of something else.

Posting pictures or links to the exact model would be helpful.

Or even post the model of that computer.

I would recommend about a 240 - 256 GB SSD as it will really speed that thing up.

Good here seems not an older HP-Compaq DX6100 involved. Of course they used their own cage with very specific hardly if not available anymore screws. yes also used to mount optical drive.... we had a long discussion here. and i finally got the wrong ones...

he/she should get the advice that an adapter/holder is needed to match the cage.

A old PATA, ide, computer. So you can not mount a SSD and use it.

If you secure it to the top of the cage, that should work.

Here is the manual and page 21 starts the hdd replacement instructions.

    Hope that helps.

    Newegg.com > PATA SSD's

The Transcend 2.5" 128GB SSD works great for speeding up an old PATA/IDE computer.

Thanks. The last one I installed in a guy's old laptop was almost 4 years ago ... and he's still using it.
