HDD-recognition-To which MOBO does it belong

How is it possible to identify a HDD-to which Motherboard it is belonging?
On the newer ones i added the information to systempartition-name.
Where do we have to look when drive is on external exclosure? Thanks a lot

Plug the usb in and look in device manager.
Speccy - https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds should show it.
