So quite a few months ago I ask about my compac cq61 laptop. That won't start up. When I turn it on, its a red screen and it says windows failed to start, says to launch startup repair, when I click on this, it goes to insert your windows disc, since I don't have one, it says contact administrator, for assistance, , click on repair, it says error ---0xc000000f-----info boost selection failed, then goes to beginning again, red screen etc, can you help, Thanks in advance . Im trying to post pic of what the computer says but notsure how-thanks in advance.

Stark Raving MOD
It's CompaQ, not CompaC.

You would have had to create/burn your OS Recovery discs when you first got the computer. If you never did that, you'd have to contact Compaq for a set.
It sounds like a bad hard drive. You'll need to run the hard drive manufacturer's diags from a boot disc. Check the BIOS to see what the make/model of the drive is first.
You can either go to the hard drive manufacturer's support site to download their diags, or you can use UBCD5.
