I have now two identical drives only seperated by S/N. where can i see it in Winxp? do i need a program. Of course i will make markers on desktop but naming will be the same when backup was repeated. this is also a problem when using trueimage for cloning. see seperat thread about whats nerving me with trueimage.
Will it always boot from quick SATA II(2)_1 and not from the slower SATA 1 when i have two bootable drives?
when using SATA-IDE-mobo with two bootdrives it was a bit confusing sometimes. dont remember details.

Depends on the BIOS settings. And what drive the OS is installed on and where the bootloader is.

I have two identical drives. original and backup. both differ only by S/Ns. I only remember havin problems in ghost where for some reasons bootdrive was once shown on pos.2.
if for some reasons one must work with the backup-drive wouldnt it make sense to set systempartition back inactive?

Takes time and practice, but you will remember how to do things.
    Been there myself.

New drive to backup existing one Preparation

Just one question: when I first initialise a brand new drive in the disk manager, is it ok to do a quick format or should I leave it to do a full one?

On a new drive, choose to run a regular format on a volume so that it will scan the hard disk for bad sectors. The scan for bad sectors is responsible for the majority of the time that it takes to run a regular format on a volume.

A quick format option does not scan the disk for bad sectors. Use this option only if your hard disk has been previously formatted and you are sure that your hard disk is not damaged.
