Cloning 2TB-hdd-winxp-Clonezilla/Trueimage full
Accidentally shut down DBAN-process in the middle of second run of a clone-drive 2TB. full run-3 rounds- would have taken 26 hours.
Then clonezilla did a clone but i could not boot. it hanged. before it asked if i wished to copy boatloader which i agreeded. why shouldnt I?
So i formatted systempartition in windows xp.
then i switched to trueimage but i cannot clone systempartion it wants to clone the whole drive. had the same problem beforehand. see other thread where i had to clone indirectly. is that the normal process first finding a location for the clone-file?

Should i have removed the drive-letter? Will retry with clonezilla. partition to partition.
-
Try hidding the partition you do not want to clone, the see if a full clone will get just what you want.
-
Tried full clone with both trueimages and clonezilla.
i could boot with the latter but desktop is freezing. cannot enter internet. speedfan does only show its icon but temperature must be shown more or less quickly. i am waiting an waiting. maybe i must do longer.
problem with clonezilla:
using repair-function for source-filesystem will make the clone-drive boot(see above). but further options which are asked are confusing. i had set full resolution 1080.
i cannot read all options: i see k1, k2 and a third line without expected k3. its about partition table to be copied(or similar) with make screenshot next time.
so i need instructions how to clone.
problem could be since i used the remaining systempartition or backup of the "defective" drive with overlapping c and D. maybe better using an older pre-accident-backup.
until last time when i switched clone-tools i did overwrite not format inbetween. drive is now formatted. That should work. non-repairing should now also work. worth a trial?

Ok tried again but this time cloning only systempartition with both trueimage, then clonezilla(no file-system repair(source). on both-desktop is freezing and speedfan temp. not shown.
with trueimage i could make mouse-clock run when running firefox.
will now DL new clonezilla. amd64 since i have dualcore amd asrock alive dual esata2. hope its the right one.
http://clonezilla.org/downloads/down...ch=alternative
should i first format systempartition.
last time when formatting whole 2tb-drive it took quite a long time- 2hrs or longer.

Yes, if using a dual core cpu.
Yes, formating being at the basic level, does take a long time.
-
Will retrywith new clonezilla. if not working i must DBAN completely. accidentally interrupted during second run touching reset-knob outside. should now work on p4. hdd was not recognized before i did dban.
-
Surprised to see systempartition having wrong letter: G instead of C. hanged before windows-login.
yes i did used the repair-option of the filesystem this time.
after using new clonezilla systempartition-cloning.
with older one desktop was freezed.
formatted again with no driveletter associated.
if not working i will reformat drive and reclone whole drive.
-
No success at all. why shouldnt i allow bootloader cloning? I did it. nothing changed.
speedfan sensors detected then i tried to enter internet with firefox. maybe should have waited until temperature was shown.
desktop is freezing. maybe waiting longer until doing anything.
cannot dban on p4. it hangs during boot -hdd-detection.
maybe i will retry with new hdd and trueimage(full).

Solved for a short period of time
Only a short enjoy on my new drive.
After a new connection of new drive speedfan-temperature finally was shown and i could enter here and start writing until it freezed(no cookies set).before that i could run tfc.
so cold shut-down done and problem starting all over again.
AND: with desktop-freezing also clock is freezing.
i will retry and remove speedfan first.

SUCCESS-SOLVED!
Could solve the problems with freezing desktop.
1. removed some programs and reinstalled. removed speedfan, removed/reinstalled ccleaner.
removed also desktop-icons.
cleaned etc. working now properly!
2. in autostart i have seen and deactivated kernelfaultcheck.
what is this for?

Related to the Windows DumpPrep.exe program, it logs errors and collects memory dumps whenever there is a serious Windows error. This is a non-essential system process and can be removed from startup if you dont plan on sending error reports to Microsoft.
