Cannot enlarge winxp-partition- with gparted on usb-stick

On a 2tb-hdd with gparted(usb-stick)I wanted to enlarge D from 320 to 420gb to enlarge remaining 80gb free space to 180. could not defrag remaining undefragged 37gb video-files. defragging only partly possible. reduced reserved recycle-bin-space to 0.
    1. reduced F by 100gb and enlarged E by 100.
    2. reduced E by 100 and tried to enlarge D by 100.
at the end i see 5.4gb free space between E and F
    D unaltered.
I did not reboot between the actions.
computer-management winxp does not show anything alteres, except these 5.4 gb free space added. Thanks

    Did you apply the changes?
Does not sound like you did.

yes apply was done. wierd. will restart. what must be done with the free space? was my tactic ok. multistep-procedure. I remember when i had to interrupt this procedure(could not wake of monitor anymore) leading to that partition-overlap which is still unresolved.

I could try with windows-version partition magic. i think i once was succesfull on that drive.
using external version on a boot-cd(multiple programs on it) shows 110-error.
Still dont know how to produce a boot-version PM alone.
    ok will retry gparted first.

    SOLVED

Solved with Partition Magic-win which has a repair-function which gparted does not have. partition table and other things had to be repaired. if only i could repair the drive with overlapping C and D that easily. i will give it a try. one of both drives(the copy not the original which i messed up) can boot. maybe installation of PM there could help. didnt alter C after the incident happened.

    How i solved it here:
I switched from Gparted to PM and back finding out that the tasks could not be executed. . Also not possible when doing one step after the other with reboot. Of course i had to repair again(in PM) after gparted trials.
I finally did also fuse the remaining 5gb-space. i remembered there will be new directory for that in D. Now i will rerun defraggler. yes after defragging the normal way defraggling the file-list was not possible before.
