Cloning external drive failed the second time-True Image used
I have two external SATA-drives 1TB with messed up partition tables, see here:
http://www.sysopt.com/showthread.php...al-drive-winxp
I was working with testdisk and BooItBM on both but all the advice didnt help make my data visible. it shows RAW instead of NTFS.
I am getting help now, a bit later after 2 months of trials, from bootitbm(terabyte-forum) and testdisk-forum now. but until now advice didnt help.
it seems clone is more messed up now so i decided to clone again but failed with true-image.
first drive is errorfree(datalifeguard diagnostics), clone is now under test.
how do i prepare this failed drive for cloning? wiping data there? or can it be repaire without losing data. i would like to give a new trial. maybe better get a new drive and use that one for cloning before doing new steps incl. repair.
i had troubles when one drive was on quick-sata, the other one on slow. it was not supported. maybe i will retry cloning that way which alternative to trueimage(full)?
-
clone-drive is also error-free. can i use the wipe-command in DLG to get it ready since last time- when clone was already mixed up-it failed?
-
Yes, you can DBAN, or simular tool, can be used when you wish. 3 passes should bury the problem.
-
maybe wipe in dlg will not help? does seatools have a wipeoption?
-
Yes it does.
I saw it last week, but I was using the DOS version.
And the hdd was the only one hooked up.
-
I will do with dos. hirens boot cd used.
-
Cloning with trueimage failed
wiped in dlg diagnostics, the prepaired partition in trueimage before starting cloning. but it failed.
maybe partition-table damaged drive cannot be cloned.
btw: i dont trust BootIt Bare Metal(terabyte) for cloning. It does not show hdd-model.
trueimage even shows if drive has data.
Do i have to format before cloning? can i do outside windows?
I will wipe again, this time with wipe for dos by terabyte, only one drive attached.
-
Make sure you have 3 passes when you wipe it. Had only 2 cause problems like that.
I never have had to format before cloning.
Make the bootable cd from within TrueImage and use it.

bootble cd already made and used once. i made the first clone.
surprise: wiping is done with copywipe by terabyte. after 5hrs only 5% of 1tb is used. is this normal? would wiping on p4 last longer than on dual-core?should i interrupt and use dban. then i could work on better pc.
surprise 2(or not):
its seem they deleted my thread in terabyte-forum. maybe better since it is confusing. two hdd-problems discussed. and i tried out without asking experts.
-
Switching to second pc seems to stop copywipe. its stayed at 5%....
Will now dban on slower pc(p4) now attached on second line. not as single. should it matter? as single or not?
-
Just make darn sure you get the right drive. Or you will have 2 empty drives.
-
You can be sure. at least dban will show modeltype when copywipe will not....
dban (btw they have now a pair-version: blancco. When i pay them i will be blanco.....out of money.) ok they made good work no complaining.
on P4 will drive will not be recognized at boot neighter when in DBAN. seems i cannot run in p4. maybe on slooow usb 2.0. i remembered more than 10 hrs for cloning. but that was at times when i did it on dualcore and forgot to use esata....
will now go to dualcore.
btw: dont want to spend multiple days with this pc blocked. come back soon.

Now running as single-drive on dualcore dban-autonuke. it will take 11 hrs(130MB/sec) for 3 passes. Afterwards cloning with trueimage again? i could also use BooItBM. Remember i did format new drive. New drives: Do they have to be prepared to cloning, how? i have 2 tb-drive which i want as clone-drive for defective boot-drive. still overlapped partitions c and d.
testdisk has a solution. i have got help. but i want to test on clone.
-
I would try to clone again.
-
Yes tried after DBAN finished sucessfully. Took 13 1/2 hrs!
Cloning failed. Multiple attempts. also changed to GPT(second option)
Drive shown as unallocated. is this ok.
but when i must backup data from other drive it must be formatted. can i do that with bootcd (which program?) or in windows.
see futher developments in testdisk with screenshots(maybe only shown when loogged) here:
http://forum.cgsecurity.org/phpBB3/p...24.html#p14624
maybe you cannot see them. then i will post in the other thread about mixed up partition tables.
maybe not since i have problems on boot-drive and external drive. and sysopt-thread is probably about the bootdrive with overlapping partitions.
the reason why i cant clone could be this. I "worked" on the drive which could be cloned before with both BootItBM and Testdisk. But had no clear knowledge yet. instructions were not clear enough.
