    automatic rebuild function of raid 1. does it mean when replacing one defective hdd data will be rebuilt to work again?

    Since mirroring is the purpose of RAID 1, then yes, it should start building the mirror automatically. However, I suppose it could depend on the RAID hardware or software you're using.

    build yes but rebuild is when one drive crashed, new one installed, right?

    Yes, the job of RAID1 is to mirror the original, i.e., build/rebuild.
