    Lightbulb Excel attachments

I have an issue with Outlook 98 opening an Excel 97 attachment in a new Excel window instead of opening in the file in the current Excel window that is already opened. Example: I have Excel opened, nothing is in that window, no grids, just a grey background like the previously opened file was closed. When we try to open an attachment from Outlook, it will open a new Excel session instead of the attachment opening in the current one.

Running on Win95, Toshiba Portege 7010, if you think that may help with narrowing down why this might be doing this. This user is the only one that this is happening to, all others are able to do it with the current session. Thanks in advance.

The Excel attachment was created and saved in an Excel format that Outlook 98 does not recognize. Excel is compatible with older versions and can open spreadsheets created on them, thus it opened the doc in a separate Excel session. You'll need to open the file in your Excel, select "Save as", then select this from the drop-down box:
    "Microsoft Excel 97&5.0/95 Workbook(*.xls)"
Before you do this, you may have to cut/paste the file from your Outlook inbox into your Excel saved files. Hope this helps!
The problem lies with Outlook98/Office97 incompatibilities. P.S. Is everyone opening the same exact file?
