adding memory to hp pavilion p7 1267c

HP Pavilion P7 1267c w/8GB (4GB x 2) ram, needs more memory for visually disabled user (not me) to use voice software to read email, screen, attachments, etc. (I have the same computer, so I can assist her. I would also like to add memory, but it is not crucial (!) for me.)I have looked at HP site, which is confusing, telling me that Windows 7 Home Premium supports 16 GB memory, and tells me how to add/change (I have done this before, that's no problems.) However, Crucial website says 8GB DIMM x 2 is not compatible with this computer. I will next look inside the computer to see how many slots exist for RAM- two, I think. Is there a way to change and add 8GB DIMM x 2 and make it work? Thanks very much for any help/insight.

HP themselves say it only goes up to 8GB. There are only 2 slots.

Are you sure the system needs more than 8GB? I've set up systems with apps like Dragon Naturally Speaking, Zoomtext, JAWS and Openbook Ruby and they didn't have anywhere near 8GB or even 4GB.

Thanks for quick reply. Yes, we had a previous Dell Dimension 4600 w/4GB and JAWS installed. It worked, but not perfectly. She is using a new version of JAWS, maybe that is the prob. I surely thought 8GB would be sufficient. Is there anything we can do to prevent crashing Word and JAWS when using them together? In addition, I've heard from others on HP's user forum that folks have added more RAm than HP says will work, and it worked. Is there a danger of overload or overheating when you try this? Again, help is much appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have a JAWS system with me right now. You'd probably have to check with JAWS support. Maybe revert to the older version and see how it goes. Microsoft will not be helpful. What version of Word?

I don't think the system would overload or overheat. You can give it a shot if you want, but make sure you can return the ram if it doesn't work.

It's Word 2010. Will try JAWS support, also blind users support groups can be helpful.
    Thanks again.

Good luck. Unfortunately, that's a really niche market application. Hopefully the other support groups will have a fix.

If you still think it's memory, keep task manager open and watch the memory use.

As far as Office/Word, make sure to install all the updates.
