Replacing external HD with new external HD
I have an external hard drive used for backup. It seems to have failed and will replace it. I have an HP PC, the Western Digital 1TB external hard drive that has failed on drive J. I will replace it with a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 Black Desktop Hard Drive STCA1000100. I have the HP backup program scheduled to perform a backup once a week. Since the current hard drive has failed I've turned off the HP program.
When I remove the current failed hard drive and install the new Seagate 1TB hard drive into the same USB port on the back of the computer, can I turn back on the HP backup program and not have to do anything else? Just wondering if the PC will recognize this new Seagate external hard drive, on the same Drive J, or do I have to do anything in the HP backup program to ensure the program will recognize the new external hard drive and perform the scheduled backup this Sunday @ 6:00 PM as scheduled?
Thanks for the help.
Mick
