Write Protect or Hiding Volume/Data-Partition? Winxp-NTFS
To keep a Data-Partition untouched, should it be hidden or write-protected.
How can i do that on Winxp pro? NTFS
Thanks a lot

I was already in google and have read threads about pseudo-write-protection.
I have found this tool which can hide:
boot-us.

Hiding ,Unhiding, PW-problems
Boot-us is used inside windows. I have executed hiding second partition, but:
a) have pw-problems entering admin-account. is not recognized.
had to restart to let the system accept PW.
b) cannot delete or change PW.
since i do now have damaged systemfiles-see other thread- i cannot unhide.
AND: i do not have a backup of the system....!

Think you may have got it confused.

1. I know bootmanagers behaviour on older pcs.
2. i did not use the bootmanager in boot-us.
i simply have hidden the second partition by using boot-us from within windows.
3. the PW problems already existed before using, even having installed boot-us.
4. just now i could see a strange behaviour after Spybot S&D-scan being finished. i could not go further, PW or no PW(i removed it). access was denied, admin-right needed.
I think i will remove and reinstall SBSD.
maybe it has something to do with my repair-action of the systemfiles. had to reinstall SBSD. maybe remains of the old installation blocked it.

Omitting partition-letter
Could it be that leaving away drive-letter caused the problems? Maybe drives cannot be seen without a letter, right?

It could be a glitch in that program.

PW-problem SOLVED
First i thought i could cure it by removing/reinstalling accounts.
But its an old 200gb-drive. Maybe because of this(sometimes shutting down lasts) sometimes one must wait a bit before entering the PW. Strange but true.
2. Is there a different way- other than hiding with boot-us- to write-protect a partiton-in my case a backup of my systempartition?

PW-Problem SOLVED Final Version...
It was not removing/reinstalling accounts which solved my PW-problem but waiting a bit. Sometime i must wait a few seconds.
Maybe this old 200gb is also the reason somtime shutting down is lasting long er than normal.
Will now switch to my other new system/drive with much large space.
2. Is there i second method to write-protect a partiion-other than hiding with boot-us? I have a system-partition-backup there. Thanks a lot
