    Smartware-WD-Backup

Tried to backup my second drive into a directory on external Le Book Esentials 1TB without success!
Used smartware, defined the necessary "abrufordner-german word" and it started, had multiple hours to copy 320gb on my slow pc.
But from the beginning i could not see an data on that directory.
software said successfully copied. Drive was smaller but BUT NO DATA copied at all!

If this software is nbot able to copy like this its should at least warn.

I will give back that cr....!

Backup from second drive to My Book failed

Backup of the whole second drive-not system-drive on my winxp-system to 1TB My Book Essential (WD) failed. I created a destination directory.

Space is used but directory is empty. My copied data cannot be seen nowhere.
I am now testing the drive after having deleted this directory. Deletion did not change space.

Software must be crippled. And didnt block my "wrong-doing". Only system-drive-data can be copied.

If i format whole drive all software is gone.

Why I use copy/paste instead of programs when backing up to usb. Seen to many hangups and had f to format or low level format the hdd. A real pain.

Learned to jump in a hdd using ATA cards. Works great and bunches faster.

Didnt understand jump in using ata-cards.
Pearl.de has a console which can copy HDD to HDD without PC.
I am considering removing drive from case and connect to sata. have my pc open.

also with my second successful trial i had a hanger. backup stopped.
maybe energy-settings. there is a strange setting where i can decide whether copy-process is running only when no activities. or the opposite.

I could finally find my data. in a different directory than i have setup.
    WDSmartware.swstor

How can i save my data of second drive to a seperate directory?
I wold be strange if i had to evaquate first data-pack to a directory manually.
maybe i will use acronis true image and going the quick way.

I have a ATA 1333 card that goes into a pci slot and it will give me 4 more ide devices.

I have a SATA card that gives me 2 more SATA devices.

Install card, boot up install drivers. Shut down and hook up hdd. How i had 6 hdds and 2 burners hooke up in my old 25000 Barton setup.

    Examples:

Now those hdd replicators would be nice to have.

I have two ide + 2x sata + 2 raid-controllers. could make a complicated ide-combination. did this when using virtual file on second drive.

thats why i must use ide-systemdrive when i want to copy SATA-SATA. which i will do for the next backup-action, taking out my My Book Essential Drive.

when removing usb-stuff do i have to logout? on winxp

With what you do, get it. Solve a lot of problems it will.

I use those type of cards and really like them.
Not the same as the duplicator, But does allow you to connect more devices.

comparing usb-drive 2.0 with pci-esata-card which one is quicker for saving large amounts of data? duplicator is certainly quickest.

eSATA does in minutes what it would take hours/days using USB 2.

Took about a hour for 100 GB of graphics. If I remember right. But I used the built in eSATA on my case which is connected to my SATA number 3 mobo connector.

USB 3.0 is suppost to be just as fast.

But we must take into consideration, the hdds limitations.

Its about copying and saving photo/video-data.

    I will use both systems-duplicator and esata-pci-card. i have a slow usb 2.0-only pc.
    we will see.
I will also copy my files from camera directly using wia-loader.
Will also burn my 8gb-cards(photos/videos) to double-layer dvds.

Will report later about speed of a newer lian li-cardreader when i have it. Copying through my actual non-usb-cardreader(how is this called? with direct board-connector?) took terribly long.
