CD-ROM eject mechanism out of sync

I have a Toshiba/Samsung SH-M522 CDRW which serves me well.

But after opening it with a paper clip, the eject mechanism is out of sync. Now the drive will not completely open or close, unless I pull or push the tray. That also keeps the drive from reading CDs.

I am disassembling the drive, and I request advice on syncing the eject gears so that the drive can not only open and close correctly, but also read and write CDs.

    Thank you in advance.

With the drive disassembled, I could not remove the tray if I wanted to. The tray blocks access to the ejecting gear at the front, on the left when facing the drive.

Since the gear got out of sync with the tray, there should be a way to get it back in sync with the tray.
