    New GFX Card Not working...

    Hello everyone,

So I have a old setup but I like my PC and don't have 1200 to dump into a new one.
So the current specs are below:

    Motherboard: Gigabytpe GA-8PENXP
    GFX Slot: AGP 4x/8x
    Processor: 2.8 Ghz P4 w/ HT
    Memory: 4GB DD2
    PSU: 500W

I currently have the radeon 9200SE GFX card and when I uninstalled the driver, and powered off my PC. I installed the new ATI HD 4760 AGP GFX Card and when I powered on my PC and all I get is a black screen. I've updated BIOS and I can't seem to get my monitor to display anything...

Anyone have any ideas? or anything? Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I think you mean 4670. Did you plug in the power connector on the back of the card?

The 4670 only pulls 70 watts max. the Old 9200 max at 28W watts.

May need a bigger power supply.

    Yes sorry 4670

And I did plug the 4pin power connector fan spins and stops and then it decides to spin and stop.

You don't think a 500Watt PSU can handle it?

I've tested both VGA and DVI outputs to my monitor and still nothing.
Its like my monitor recognizes the signal cause it switches from "Digital" to "Analog" and back and then its just a black screen with the backlight lite up.
Usually if there's no signal it says no signal.

Upon boot up I don't even see the BIOS info or anything just beeps and black screen.

Is the video card on a power line by itself? If you're sharing hard drives off the same line, that might cause problems.

Well its attached to a fan and a fan controller but that's about it. I don't see it being a big problem... but I'll try on its own dedicated line. But it probably won't help.

sounds like the PSU is not providing enough power to the Video card

i'm not surprised, because a recent system that i build with a 750W PSU did not provide adequate power to an ATI 5850 card, then i changed it to another PSU with better power, then it worked fine.

In many cases, it's not about how many watts a PSU is supposed to deliver as much as how many watts it *is* delivering. There are more cheap power supply brands than quality brands and most of those cheap ones don't deliver what they say they do.

As Directron says, you can pretty much judge the quality of a PSU by how much it weighs.
