Win7 installer sees SSD capacity as 0 bytes

I have a Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD. After shutting down and powering on, I got a Win7 error message saying the boot loader is missing or corrupted. I decided to just reinstall 7, but the installer saw the SSD capacity as 0 bytes. Ubuntu's LiveCD doesn't see the SSD at all.

The cables are firmly connected; I never touch them. I have AHCI enabled in my BIOS, as I always have. Again, this is a sudden occurrence; I changed nothing relevant. Is my SSD dead?

Did you try a different SATA port on the motherboard? Did you try a different power connector on the PSU?

I tried a different power cable and SATA cable (the ones attached originally to my other drive, which Windows recognizes), but there is no difference.

The Win7 installer can't see the drive, and when I do a Startup Repair, it says "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically." It also says that the MBR is corrupt.

    Some things to consider...

Make sure you don't have a USB flash drive installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934540

You could try the Bootrec Tool to repair the MBR. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392

I once had a Vista system that would not repair with the Install DVD, but was successful in running Startup Repair with a System Recovery Disk and I have no idea why. You can download Windows 7 System Recovery Disks here.

You might want to check the Patriot site , there are reports in their forums of failures that firmware updates can possibly fix.

I tried Bootrec already, but it would only tell me that it repaired something successfully; nothing changed.

I also don't have any USB flash drives plugged in when I execute the system recovery tool on the 7 CD.

I'll try the System Recovery disc, if only to have a spare, and I will report back.

Starting to sound like a bad drive. did you try it on another system?

Are you sure that Ubuntu has drivers for your SATA controller? 9.10 just came out.

I'm starting to think it's a bad drive, too. The RMA process is under way.

I don't plan on putting Ubuntu on my SSD, so it doesn't really matter. I only bring it up because I was curious to see if the Linux installer would see the SSD.
