    Password reset problem.

I have a hp Pavillion 533W from a thrift store. The windows will not power up. I have the xp disc but there is a password blocking me from getting into the bios screen. There is no battery on the board or jumper cable to reset password. I am truly stuck. Could anybody tell me how to get pass or reset the password so that I can enter the bios screen?

    According to:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/p...&product=90862

    Motherboard manufacturer
Manufacturer for computer serial numbers starting with KR and CH: Trigem Glendale
Motherboard for computer serial numbers starting with MX: ASUS IT8708F
NOTE: The serial number can be found printed on the back of the HP Pavilion computer, or while holding down the Ctrl and Altkeyboardkeys, press S. A screen will pop up with the serial number.

Both have batteries. Just so ya know, all mobo's have batteries...just have to look harder on some than others. Links provided by Google.com

I am looking at the pc and the serial number is KR24001010. But I looked carefully & we don't see a battery. I'm use to looking for large batteries.

From the KR-serial number mobo info link above:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph07813

    Clearing the CMOS settings
The Clear RTC RAM (3-pin J4) jumper allows you to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS. It also allows clearing of date, time, and system setup parameter memories in CMOS by erasing the RTC RAM data. The onboard button cell battery powers the RAM data in CMOS, including system setup information such as system passwords.
CAUTION: Do not change any jumper setting while the computer is on. Damage to the motherboard can result.

Turn off the PC and unplug the power cord.
Move the J4 jumper cap from pins 1-2 (normal) to pins 2-3 (clear CMOS).
Keep the J4 jumper cap on pins 2-3 for 6 seconds, then move it back to pins 1-2.
Plug in the power cord and turn on the PC.

    Clearing the BIOS password
The BIOS password protects the BIOS from undesired changes. If password checking is enabled, and you need to disable it, use the following steps:
CAUTION: Do not change any jumper setting while the computer is on. Damage to the motherboard can result.

Turn off the PC and unplug the power cord.
Move the J2 jumper cap from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3, to enter the BIOS without a password.
To enter BIOS setup, start the PC and press F1 as the PC boots.
Clear or reset the BIOS password.
Save the BIOS settings and turn off the PC.
Return the J2 jumper cap to pins 1-2.
