how to set up a wireless network

hi..i am a newbie in the networking field...i have moved into a new hostel and a few of us has laptops here.abt 15...spread over two floors...we are thinking of setting up a wireless network so dat we can play games and share an unlimited internet connection...after searching the net i have found dat i need a wireless router...should i have to keep a computer always on as server to run the network?
since we have laptops, its pretty difficult to find a always on server...also i found that most routers come with a 100m range...practically how much will it cover in a typical 2 storeyed building...thanks

A Wireless Router is a Stand alone device that keeps by itself the Internet alive.

When using a Wireless Router only the computer that needs the Internet has to be On.

This can serve as a Mini tutorial to Wireless.
