    mother board and CPU combo

    i am lookin to upgrade my PC i have a 3000+ athlon xp i have a Gforce 6600 gt apg if you need to know and a sound blaster 5.1 i think. i know its really old and
    know they dont even make updates for it any more =( . i would like to upgrade to somthing thats going to be bang for the buck kinda thing if it helps. i would like to play crisis and gears of war on my pc with smooth frames and crisp sound and a video card thats going to kick *** for a year or more. i not lookin to spen top dallor but i have some extra coins i can spare if its going to be worth it in the long run. links sites anything to help me get started and oh ya i would like to get a new case as well mine is an old sever case from my old job just way to big with no way to put extras in it sorry for the long thread any questions just ask thanks

    Even if you upgrade the video card, the CPU would be the bottleneck. I think you're better off pricing out a new system.

    Midknytes right. Man it sucks, sink a load into a PC and 2 years later it's outdated. In the meantime, perhaps you can find some games that are matched to your computers capibilities. There's a lot out there!

    I have a soft spot for that 3000+, it was the centerpiece of my first build - along with the 6600GT. My parents now have it. It's still running great, and since they aren't into gaming (I think) it's perfect for them.

    Prices are so low these days you can build a middling dual-core setup for $350-400 and probably re-use your PSU, optical drives, hard drive(s), I/O devices and speakers. Really, the mobo/RAM/CPU/video are all you need. Get on-board graphics if necessary for now.
    Thank God we're not getting all of the government we're paying for!
