Looking for HP notebook sata driver to install WinXP

I'm trying to reinstall WinXP Pro on a friend's Compaq NX6310 notebook computer. However, Setup could not find any hard disk typically meaning that I need to provide SATA drivers thru F6 when booting from the XP CD.

Problem is ... HP's webpage for this notebook does not provide the SATA driver. I haven't been able to find one by Googling either. I tried Chatting with HP, but since the laptop is out of warranty, they won't even send me a link to the driver so I can move forward.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

The HP tech came back with a link to the Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver. I tried that but none of the 4 drivers included on the floppy worked.

How do I know which SATA drivers I need? Strange thing is ... this is HP/Compaq ... all these drivers should be readily and easible available on the HP website!!

I tried searching for the NX6310 model on DriverGuide.com and there are NO items found in their database.

    Any ideas are appreciated.

Isn't there an IDE compatibility mode in the BIOS? You don't need AHCI.

Nothing worked and I ended up finding a few very long threads in regard this problem on this laptop and similar models whereby the only way around it was to go into BIOS and turn OFF SATA Native Mode. Once that happens, you no longer need to provide a SATA driver at the F6.

Wow! Chalk this up to a learning experience.

That's what I meant. There is usually a way to make SATA act like IDE to windows.
