Uninstalling Adobe
I tried uninstalling Adobe Reader 7.0.7 with "Add or Remove Programs" to no avail.
An error message appeared:
"This pack package could not be opened. Verify..."
I then tried to uninstall with Revo Uninstaller.
I received the same error message, but was allowed to continue.
Revo Uninstaller found 1709 Registry items.
Is it safe to delete all of these items?
Some are extensions, e.g. .api, .edn, .etd, etc.
I have created a restore point with Windows, and I understand R.U. creates it's own.
Just want to be safe-not sorry.
Thanks.

Reinstall that version, yes right over the top of whats there, and it should uninstall like it is suppost to.

The other thing to consider with Adobe Reader is that it installs itself as a startup item, and you can't uninstall it when it's running in the background. You should check your Startup folder to ensure the shortcut is removed, and before trying to remove it ensure it's stopped in Task Manager | Processes.
Once it's stopped it should be possible to uninstall it.
Thank God we're not getting all of the government we're paying for!

I would like to completely remove Adobe.
Is it safe to remove the 1709 Registry items with Revo Uninstaller?
Thanks

I haven't run into a problem with Revo. The whole point is to take out the residue that a normal uninstall leaves. You can manually make a registry backup if you're that concerned.

Once removed, you will still need an app for opening PDFs. PDF-Xchange Viewer is much quicker, more functional, and doesn't require a 20MB update every two days.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. You read my mind.
I have now completely removed Adobe with Revo Uninstaller (after I did a Start>Run>regedit>File>Export) and will need to try one of the programs you mentioned.

I have downloaded and installed Foxit. It seems to work fine for opening .pdf files.
However, I find it ironic that it tried to install the very "Ask" Toolbar that started me on this thread.
Now that I have eliminated all traces of Adobe, I would like to know if there is a Flash Player that someone can recommend (Besides Adobe!)
Thanks.

Hmm. I use the standalone .exe, not the msi installer of foxit and it doesn't prompt for a toolbar.
You need to use the adobe flash player. Not much choice there. If you're running firefox, you just need the np32dsw.dll file in your data\plugins folder.

I downloaded the .exe file rather than the Zip. When I clicked on the file (FoxitReader30_enu_Setup) I got the Setup window "... Setup will install Foxit Reader 3.0 with Foxit Toolbar on your computer. To continue, please click Next".
No big deal. I managed somehow to get rid of it on Firefox, and on IE it is just on the right-click drop down sub menu.
As for a flash player, I'm not sure what you mean by the file "np32dsw.dll". I did a "Start>Search" for it, to no avail. Do I still have to use Adobe, or do I just need that file?
Thanks

I said STANDALONE .exe. That's the .zip file. The file inside the zip is just Foxit Reader.exe. It should not ask you to install anything. You'll have to manually add file associations, start menu shortcuts, etc. It might be easier for you to just use the setup.exe
You'd have to manually extract the np32dsw.dll file from the installer.exe and put it into the data\plugin folder if you don't want to use the installer. It's easier to just use the installer, but that's how you do it manually.
