    Intel D945GTP new processor

    Hello,

I have an Intel D945GTPLR based computer. The current processor is a Celeron D. I would like to change it to a Pentium D, but since it is not manufactured anymore I am thinking of a Core Duo. The problem is Core Duo is not listed as a compatible processor (http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../CS-026628.htm). On the other hand I know there are some D945 based motherboards that are compatible with Core Duo. I wrote to Intel but I did not receive any answer so far.

    Thank you.

More than likely, a pentium D is going to be as high as you can go. the Core 2 Duo's are very finicky about older platforms. the 965 seems to be the lowest board that is fully supported, so if you can't find the Core 2 Duo on that list of compatible processors, chances are it's not compatible. Sorry.

The 945 chipset should support core2duo cpus, but make sure to update to the latest bios first.

    Thank you for your answers.

I have received an answer from Intel. Not compatible, no explanation.

I found this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_C..._compatibility

    Thank you.
