Xbox 360 Controller for Windows: Won't Install
No matter how many times I install the software for this controller, after doing so I can plug the controller into the USB port and always get the same error saying "USB Device Not Recognized". The machine I'm currently using has Windows XP SP2 Pro and previously it would only use the controller when, even though I'd rather not use this term, "when it felt like it".
I know it isn't the USB port because it did this on all four of them (there are two in the front of the case and two on the back). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

All I did was plug mine in, and when windows found it I had it search for the drivers online. I didn't install the driver first.

I just gave it a try like that, and got the same result as before which would be..nothing. Restarting the machine after the install didn't help either.

Just so everyone knows--
I found and downloaded two files that were supposed to install this thing. The first one was just to install the drivers for the controller and nothing more (the file is named XBOX360Eng.exe on the net and places to get it), then I found on the Microsoft site a setup program that would install the Xbox 360 Accessories Manager along with the controller (this file was called Xbox360_32Eng.exe). Neither of these did the job.
I also followed the directions on the Microsoft support site, and it said install the software first, then plug the controller in. So it would seem I have been doing it correctly...
I also experimented by extracting the files I downloaded and tried to manually install the device by reaching the inf file and found that, when put under the Device Installer, it shows that there are no devices that can be installed from this. Now I know that just cannot be true.
