How to remove o.s. selection on startup?
Hi, I just reformatted a friend's hp inspiron laptop and installed windows xp on it. The laptop had an unlicensed copy of windows prior to reformatting it. After installing windows the o.s. selection appeared on startup asking what o.s. to choose but the choices are both windows xp professional. Whenever I choose the second option an error occurs saying no operating system installed (something like that). This is the first time i have encountered this.
I tried to google it and found one solution but haven't tried it cause I don't have the laptop yet but is opening "boot.ini" and removing a certain line will solve the problem and remove the o.s. selection?
Thanks in advance for any reply!

Stark Raving MOD
you can either edit the boot.ini to just disable the menu.
my computer - properties - advanced - startup and recovery settings - uncheck time to display list of operating systems

Another work around would be to set the time to display the menu to zero seconds. Either way works the same.
You can also use msconfig to edit the Boot INI file
