what is the difference ?
I want to know what is the difference between a pentium D cpu and a core2duo?
I mean they both are dual core.....My wife's 2.8ghz single just is not cutting it anymore....right now a pentium D is cheap, while the core2duo is of course more expensive.
Is there a big difference in performance...she is not a heavy gamer but does play Lineage alot, with loads of multimedia, and websurfing....could a pentium D do it what she wants?
Thanks a ton!!!

A pentium D can do what she wants fairly easily.
However, the Core 2 duo is a superior architecture compared to the Pentium D. It runs cooler, uses less power, scales better (for overclocking), and the higher ones are performance powerhouses that AMD can't even touch.
So the Core 2 Duo is definitely worth it IMO.

Wow thanks for the info! I think I can wait on the core2duo....I want to check with the mobo..and see if it can support pentiumd. I have to say with experience....my core2duo's are like my old p4 2ghz machine...but is MUCH more powerful, and a bit cooler actually.
thanks for the imput!!!

What's the model of the pentium D you're looking at? The lower end Core 2 duo's are still better than Pentium D's, and they cost very close to the same. If your motherboard supports the Core 2 Duo's, you really should try and get a cheap one. You'll be much happier with it.

that's the best Core 2 Duo around $100. you can't go wrong with it.
