How to project video to screen and also use an additional monitor?

I'll try to rephrase the question since there's more space. I have a friend who using Windows XP Pro. He wants to project the image from his PC onto a screen using an lcd projector. That part is easy. The problem is that he wants to also still have a monitor connected to the PC so that he can still do work on the desktop while the other image (since we're in dualview?) is on the screen. Here's what happens, when the PC boots up, we can see the XP splash screen on both the monitor and the screen. But when the desktop launches, it only shows on the monitor and not on the screen. Here'are the specs:

    1 PC with XP Pro
NVidia Geforce 6200 256m (with DVI, VGA, and S-Video out)
    1 LCD monitor
    1 LCD projector and screen

What do you think is going on?

This will help set the identy.
Two monitors are better than one

Open one item, slide it to the 2nd screen, then open another program on the 1st monitor, or visa versa. Now test to see if works the way you want. But you may need a 2nd video card to do the split thing.
