I'm in the market for a USB flash drive, something compatible with USB 1 and 2. what are some of the top choices? I've looked at sandisk and kingston.

I like Apacer's Steno series. They are cheap and fast. USB drives are all pretty slow compared to hard drives, so don't expect too much.

They are all compatible with USB 1.1. Either would be fine. Like I said, I like the Apacer Steno - mainly because they are really fast and come with a USB stand so that it isn't always sticking out of the PC.

Just fake one. Staples.ca link is a SanDisk 4GB Cruzer Micro M2.

I have a sandisk from work. The retractable plug is convenient. The first thing i did was remove the U3. It's annoying unless you really plan to use it. This is true for any U3 enabled drive, not just sandisk.

Well, that's a U3 device. You should pick one that doesn't have that feature. Kingston, Crucial, Sandisk, Lexar, Corsair and even PNY are fine.

The Transcend Jet Flash 110 is the fastest one on the market and has a lifetime warranty for the original owner.

Getting one with a good warranty (Corsairs have 10 years I believe) is a good idea. I bought a cheap PQI from Fry's and it didn't even last me a year before it started getting flaky on me (works half the time, files get corrupted often). Usually (imo) products with long warranties are of higher quality. A manufacturer wouldn't commit to replacing your product if it didn't expect it to last, right? This is just my opinion but I've had better luck with products with a long warranty than products with a 90 day guarantee.
