    Update laptop motherboard?

    Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario R3000 notebook which is getting a little old now. I was just wondering, is it possible to replace the motherboad with that from a later model? All I want is my existing configuration but a 128MB graphics card (or better) instead of the 64MB card I have now.

I'm also interested in dual CPU (AMD Turion) but am I correct in thinking I'd be better off in that respect with a new notebook?

Can I just upgrade my motherboard and replace it with one with a better graphics card? If so how and where can I do this?

    Thanks for reading this.

    Hello,

    Thanks for replying.

Basically I am looking for a cheap dual-CPU (AMD) notebook with a 128MB/256MB graphics card.

    What would you suggest?

Dell always has good deals and you can ask for even more off and usually get it. Don't be shy. Ask for additional rebates or price cuts. You can also check out the refurbed units to save even more.

To be honest I'd just like a basic dual-core notebook which graphics that can run Outrun 2006. Nothing more.

    Any ideas?

I'm not sure what Outrun 2006 is but does it list the minimum system requirements? If so, go from there...

    What is your budget?

"Cheap" is too general for a budget when you also want a dedicated graphics card in a notebook . Better to tell us exactly what your needs are in a laptop , including your budget . Example , , for school/business/gaming/video-photo editing , what size / resolution for the screen , battery life , <1000> <1500> , etc . However , these may suit your needs :

    Hello.

Sorry, my mistake, Outrun 2006 is a PC game, the system specs are as follows:

Operating System: Windows 2000 / XP

Processor: P4 1.3 GHz or equivalent Athlon
[P4 2.0 GHz or equivalent Athlon recommended]

    Memory: 256MB RAM [512MB recommended]

Video: 128MB video RAM - nVidia GeforceFX 5600 or equivalent ATI Radeon
[nVidia Geforce 6200 or equivalent ATI Radeon recommended]

Sound: DirectX 8.1 Compatible Sound Card

My current notebook can do all that except the graphics

By cheap I'd say between £500 and £600.

I just want a cheap dual-core laptop with the graphics stated there.

    Thanks.

also... Since almost all new notebooks sold today are loaded with Vista , you'll need to find out if Outrun '06 is compatible . Otherwise , you will need dual boot XP or install XP clean .

It runs on Vista, I tried it on my current notebook, loads the game then crashes when the game starts as the graphics card is not good enough.

A cheap dual-core notebook that can run that game would make me very happy, I'm not much of a PC gamer but I want to play this.

    Thanks.

Its hard to recommend integrated graphics for any gaming , in this case the 6100 in the link from Curry's . Besides any notebook graphics will be slightly less than a desktop model . The game spec's recommend a 6200 card so the 6100 or even a 6150 and ATI's 1100 which are found in most cheap AMD notebooks , will not likely work for you . I suggest you look for a dedicated gpu , with at least a NV7300 or ATI1400 or better .

    Hello,

Thanks for that, could you recommend such a notebook with the card(s) you mentioned? Preferably in the UK.

    Thanks again.
