    Norton and system resources

Is it true that Norton Antivirus is a system resource hog? A guy I was talking to said that the 2007 version isn't much of a hog as its previous versions, how true is this? Right now I'm using AVG on the basis that its free, but I am willing to pay for Norton if it is more likely to catch and prevent viruses.

As long as you *only* use the antivirus program, it's not a resource hog.

Just to clarify, you're talking about the other norton programs like norton firewall and such?

No one program will catch and prevent all viruses.

If you are willing to pay for the best one (as of today at least) then download Kaspersky.

If you want lightweight, use NOD32. It is very lean and effective.

Norton Internet Security is somewhat lighter than the 2006 version in terms of how much it slows Windows down but I doubt that the difference would be enough to compel you to run out and buy it. While AVG may not be the securest of all AV programs you may take some satisfaction from knowing that it puts less drag on your system than any other AV app. NOD32 has respectable stats on both counts.
Kaspersky may be the best virus killer (by the narrowest of margins) but it is quite heavy and can bring apps that use a lot of memory like CAD programs to their knees. It can take 60 seconds or more to open SoftPlan unless KAV's real-time protection is disabled. This is intolerable for busy people. Kaspersky is aware of this but has yet to address it.

    hi,

Why not try Solo Antivirus? It is very small and useful for detecting and removing all types of viruses including spyware and adware. Read more information about this program at this link: http://www.qweas.com/download/antivi..._antivirus.htm

Just my opinion hope it helps for you.

    Good luck!

    Jacky.
