This is driving me Frigging NUTS!!!

I have never, ever had a problem moving my saved to disk address book back into the right file for OE after a reload but this time I am going crazy!!! I know the routine, I know the name can not be different, I know the files are case sensitive and much be exactly as the computer is set up. Here is what I am going.

    C:\Document and settings\name\application file\microsoft\address book

There should be two files in the AB file the "Address Book" itself and a .wab~WAB~File 191 KB, or similar. The name must be exactly the same as the one in there that is empty. I delete those two files and make sure before I delete them that the files on my saved disk are named exactly the same.
This time however, every time I put the files in the folder and even delete the empty files that were in there after the reload from the "recycle bin" I close down all windows, make sure OE is not up, then open OE again. Always before, when I reopened it and hit the address book, all my addresses would be there, this time, nothing,it keeps adding the empty book and file back in the address book file. I have done this till I am blue in the face. What the didly dang am I doing that would make it do this????!!!

I thought you could import the message from the file rather than replacing the files.

In order to use the repalce method for your address book you must have the exact same version as your previopus computer and that includes the pacth level. With a new install you may have received a newer security update or not installed the right one yet.

Sterling is right - import is easier - just make sure you have the latest version of outlook express and address book.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I have been using this way for a long time, since the stone age I think. That was the way MS told me to do it and it has worked up until now.

The emotion I need is not there. An embarrassed one. I am not going to even tell you what I did. Ahhh, thanks, I got it working now.
