    Windows version?

    Is this a laptop?

Why did you install the drive?

Was an older one broken or are you adding the drive?

Did you transfer all parts from the old drive to the new one so that it plugs in properly?

Have you looked in Disk Management to see if the drive needs a letter assigned?

Slim DVD drives normally use a metal "caddy" to help it fit in various PCs. Make sure that you take the caddy off the old one and use it on the new.

Check the pins inside the laptop to make sure that you didn't bend them.

Check BIOS setup to be sure that all IDE devices are enabled.

Check the jumper on the back of the new drive. It may be set the same as the HDD and will never show up.
