CD's plays sound, but no system sound

Have an ECS K7S5A, Win XP.
2 CD roms, one a DVD and one reg burner.
Have the 4 pin cables tying in ea Rom, one though the TV tuner, then one to the SB Live card, then the 2 together on secondary 4 pin ports. CD's play sound in both roms, TV plays sound OK too.
But I cannot play any system sound, no net sounds either.
Anyone know what I can try to get this working ?

Should add that the on-board sound had been disabled in order to use the Sb live card. Puller the speaker jack from the card to check the onboard outputs anyways to see if I had system sound, no go.

    Thanks for any help.

You don't need to use the 4-pin cables for optical drives anymore. That is Win95-era tech. You can toss them out.

Double-click the speaker icon in your system tray and be sure that the wave level is up all the way.

Don't forget that the black jack on the Live is rear channels. The one next to it is front speakers.
