    Angry monitor stuck on 640x480

Have a new 10gig with only win98 loaded nothing else. 256 ram, no sound card
PII-233....will not let me change past 16 colors 640x480. I've tried both me Banshee and its drivers and the basic PCI card it now has in it. NOTHING.
I tried moving PCI slots, Taking it out of plug and play Mode for the monitor, tried basic 75mhz drivers for the PCI card....... Now what? Bad MOBO? Scratching my head.
    Any ideas??? Help

    Thumbs up

I have just finished loading two pc's at work and had the same problem.
buried deep inside the factory driver cd that comes with most machines is a svga driver that will allow 24 bit true colour and atleast 800 x 600 pixels.
    Check it out !!!

It looks like driver's problem. I had similar problem until I found original driver for video card. Did you check properties for any kind of conflict.
    Good luck.

    Question

Are you using the Quake3A compatible drivers? If you do those drivers are the worst the lock at some resoltions and also are missing some bit depths.

Download the newest reference drivers from 3Dfx or 3Dfxgamers website.

Sounds like the mother board needs to be setup. Read the manual to make sure you have it set up properly.

Many times, the driver for a new device cannot not be loaded in the usual manner. You MUST run the setup program that comes with the device then reboot the computer and let it find the device on it's own.

Have you booted into safe mode, delete all the video drivers and reboot into normal mode? Then it should detect it and prompt you to install the drivers.

What about the monitor? Did you selected the correct/compatible monitor? If not do so or use Plug'n'Pray monitor to see it works for you.
