    Dell w1700 lcd tv

Well here's my problem, my daughter bought this dell tv monitor around two years ago and it just went poof. She said she saw smoke coming from it. Do they repair lcd monitors that go poof! I checked dell and they dont sell that make any more, but they have them on ebay for around $300 bucks. Should she junk it and get another one, what do u think? Thx mike

i don't think it wouldn't be worth repairing. it's cheaper to just replace a monitor, especially lcds.

I'd just buy a brand new model of a current generation. You will definitely be able to get a 17" LCD display brand new for a lot less than $300.

    No kidding!

NewEgg has this 19" one for $189.00 Delivered To Your Door. Don't know how long it will be available with both the $20.00 Instant Savings and Free Shipping.

Even if that sale ends tomorrow, they have over 125 LCD monitors between $100.00 and $200.00. If she really needs a TV, LCD monitors/TVs are a bit more.

Some advise - don't buy an "Open Box" one because it may have been returned due to dead pixels (more than 8 policy) - Consider those that have lots of good reviews.

Lot's of folks prefer to buy LCD monitors over-the-counter from merchants that will allow you to connect it to a computer in the store before paying - because of the dead pixle policy.

But, the instances of dead pixles have been very low during the last year or so.
