Of course they can. You can't stop that with or without software or hardware.

    There is a way

    use one of these
    http://www.ledshoppe.com/Product/com/CA2018.htm

slap in any SD card you want with the data you want
and then LOCK the SD card (SD Card comes with build in ON/Off switch like 3.5 floppies)

and you can also use Crazy Glue to make sure they DO NOT open that USB drive

Then you got a perfectly "protected" USB flash drive

i'm using one as we speak, and it's really $3 bucks only
    i7-3970X, Corsair H80, 32GB G.SKILL, ASUS RAMPAGE4 Formula, VG278H(3x27")+3D Vision2, EVGA GTX 690(x2), OCZ ZX1250W, 256GB Vertex4(x2), Seagate 3TB(x5), Antec LanBoyAir, Logitech G510, G600, Z560THX, T.Flight Hotas, PZ35, Sennheiser PC163D, TrackIR5

    Agree.

I have a couple of them and they are cheap - less than $7.00 US including S&H from several places - 1 gig SD cards can be had for less than $25.00.

As AllGamer said, use the write-protect switch on the SD card - no one can inadvertently write or format. If you think they might do it purposefully, then I guess gluing the cap is a solution. Although I can't imagine why you would provide it to someone who might want to format it on purpose.

    Hello again Gargol,

Your original post is a bit unclear - if you want the user to also be able to add data, as Sterling said, there's no way to keep them from formating.

If you want to add or delete, this device is your solution.
