Best CRT for gaming?
I've got tired of my NEC 2080UX+ LCD screen.... 16ms is NOT smooth enough for serious FPS online gaming.
The 1600x1200 native res is on the limits of my graphics card, but it's not my graphics card that's the problem - I've tried dropping the res to 800x600, I get 220fps avg in timedemo's and even when the timedemo says it's doing 120fps, the screen is definitely shuddering a bit.
I borrowed my old EIZO T960 off the guy I sold it to about three years ago and (a) everthing is a lot smoother at 1600x1200 (b) I can drop the res to 1280x1024, so it's super-silky-smooth and (c) the missus hit the roof ("Why the f... is that ugly monstrosity back?!?").
I'm now looking for a serious gaming 19" CRT screen and "it has to be black" (the missus) and "doesn't have J-Lo's ****" (the missus again).
Would prefer if it is able to run 1600x1200@85Hz, most gaming to be done at 1280x1024@85-100Hz - I can't have below 85Hz as it gives me serious headaches.
I've been looking at the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB and the Dell P992.
Dell 992:
Optimal preset resolution 1024 x 768 at 85 Hz
Highest preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz
Highest addressable resolution* 1920 x 1200 at 75 Hz
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB:
1024 x 768 @ 50 to 132 Hz
1152 x 870 @ 50 to 118 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 50 to 101 Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 50 to 87 Hz
1792 x 1344 @ 50 to 78 Hz
1800 x 1440 @ 50 to 73 Hz
1856 x 1392 @ 50 to 75 Hz
1920 x 1440 @ 50 to 73 Hz
Any other cats to add to the fray??
Any comments?

The dell monitors are always good. honestly, I would say you should get the dell one. But they all sound good.

I recently picked up a Samsung 204B and it's 5ms. Nice display, bright, thin bezel, balck or silver. There are certainly better out there but, for the $ (about $450), it's a winner.

See there it goes some that knows what i'm talking about LCD = no good for gamings
if you'r a gamer, CRT is the way to go
and now with the so cheap price of wide selection of CRTs in the 19" / 21" area... LOL might as well stay in CRT for a few more years longer until they no longer produce them

Sure. Stay in the CRT range, if you like a big, clunky piece of equipment taking up all your desktop real estate. I put the old ViewSonic PF790 down in the are with the guest rooms since it's no longer needed. A *good* flat panel will NOT cause a problem with your gaming.

I'm looking at around £40 for the new screen (equivalent of about US$55 buying power for PC parts!)...
So 2nd hand CRT is the way forward and the market is FLOODED with office clear-outs of 17's and 21's, so good 19's are at knock-down prices!

Already got one of this
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...xseries/vx924/
and it still hurts my eyes, in fact just a few days ago i had to put a Shield screen on top to make it less painful, and for games, i can still see the ghosting effects, it's just annoying.
so yeah i'll rather have a big hunk of a 19"/21" CRT than a LCD any time
BTW: i still hate that annoying color in all the LCD screens they are rather horrible, even using Manual adjust, i still can't get it quite right as they show up in the CRT screens
